Our last Blog Post for this School Year!

Week of May 20-24th
Moms of the Month - Tina Malcolm and Meredith Couey
Books of the Week - The students will pick their favorites to re read and remember!

Important Dates and Times this Week:

Monday - Regular day - except Teacher Appreciation Day prep from 10-12.
Thanks to the TAD moms that will be in the classroom.  Thanks, Tina, for helping Rhonda with noon carpool!

Tuesday- Talent Show - regular dress -*VERY IMPORTANT - Since this is Early Release for the entire school so we will meet our class parents at the porte cochere (drive under) at 11:50 a.m..  Please walk up and get your child. For those with older siblings - you can then walk up the hill and pick up your older child.  I know this is extra walking, but these carpool days get very hectic.  Please text us with any questions or confusion.

Wednesday - regular school day for Kindergarten- 1st grade - 8th grade have Honors
Day and will wear Chapel Dress.  Kindergartners do not need to wear Chapel Dress. *EARLY RELEASE DAY for entire school.  Please meet Mrs. Jernigan at the porte cochere at 11:50.  Mrs. Stephens will be helping Mrs. Jernigan with day end activities and carpool.

Contrary to what I said in blog last week - please pick up your child at 11:50 this day.  If interested in seeing the 8th graders jump in the lake, (probably around 12:30) then please pick up your child and walk around to the lake area in the back.  The school is concerned that many children will be left at carpool while their parents are watching the lake jump. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Thursday - Teacher Appreciation Day
All students, except Walker, William, MIchael, Hannah and Thomas (moms hosting TAD) - should report to school at the regular time.
Jennifer Stephens will be meeting the students in the main entrance.  She will have
carpool forms and emergency forms to distribute to parents driving to the Hortons house in Doublegate.  Students should be picked up at 11:00 IN OUR CLASSROOM.  Administration is hoping to encourage parents to come inside to get progress reports in office by having you pick up in the classroom.  I know this is frustrating, but there were many young students last year, that were dropped off at school while their class was meeting at someone's house.  This new policy has been handed down from the administration.  It pertains more to those with multiple children in the school - but will hopefully alleviate some confusion.

Teacher Work Day on Monday! BOTW "Prayer for a Child"

Week of May 13-16
Book of the Week - Prayer for A Child
Habit - Review of all
Moms of the Month - Meredith Couey and Tina Malcolm

Reminder!  Monday, May 13th is a Teacher Workday and Kindergarten-2nd graders
will not come to school this day.

We would like to plan a Nature Walk this week and will check weather and update plans
on Monday evening.

Our Book of the Week, Prayer for a Child, is a Caldecott award winning book published in 1940.  To be honest, I have never had this extra week in Kindergarten to share this book with the students and look forward to seeing how God will use this to stir the hearts of the children.

Important Dates:
Monday, May 20 - regular school day
Tuesday, May 21 - Talent Show
Wednesday, May 22 - Honors Day - we do not participate and do not have to wear Chapel Dress.
(*top secret - because if you ask any administrators they will deny having any knowledge...but 8th graders "jump in the lake" at noon this day.  I would love to be a part since my daughter, Katherine will be participating.  And since your kids have a hard time believing that they would ever do this as an 8th grader - I would love for them to watch also. If there are several moms that would like to help get the kids out to the lake and stay for a few minutes...we would love to have you).  If not convenient, please let us know and we will have Mrs. G. walk the students out to noon carpool at the regular time.  Thanks.
Thursday, May 23rd - TAD

Your rod and your staff...they comfort me.

Book of the Week - "The Story of Ping"
Sounds of the Week - Review of all
Habit - Fortitude
Moms of the Month - Alex Holck and Anne Marie Stanley

I've been sitting here for ten minutes making a list in my head of all the great things that we will be doing in Kindergarten this week....while two families in our school are experiencing great pain, uncertainty and the harsh realities of our earthly lives.  One of these families is the Jernigans. Rhonda and her husband Cary have gone to be with Cary's mom as she grows weaker.  Cary's mom, Nancy, is a believer and will be sitting at the feet of our Heavenly father in a short time.     Please, please join me in praying for Rhonda and family as they walk this path as well as for Pam McCraney and her family.  This is what the body of Christ and more intimately, our Covenant school body is about!  As Rhonda always says,
"the Word is TRUTH" and His promises sustain...for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Ps. 23)

Hug your children REAL tight tonight.
They are a JOY in the lives of so many - especially their kindergarten teachers.

The academic week will work itself out....it always does.

After Spring Break....A Trip to France with Madeline!

Week of April 8-11

Sound of the Week - Vowel Sound Review
Book of the Week - Madeline
Habit - Thinking
Moms of the Month - Anne Marie Stanley and Alex Holck's 3rd time!

BIrthday Blessing for Jack - on April 11th (his birthday is the 12th)!
Happy Birthday, Mrs. Jernigan! April 11th!

Hope your Easter Break was wonderful!  Can't wait to see the children bright and early Monday morning.

We will jump right into our year end activities on Monday.  The children will review the vowel sounds and continue to build their sound deck of cards.  We will count by 2s and travel in two straight lines (like Madeline).

Madeline is always a favorite book as we study the culture of France, including language, landmarks and food.  It provides an excellent review of rhyme which is important for understanding word families and early decoding.

We might even have a visit from Miss Clavel!

Looking forward to our last parent meeting on April 15th at the Horton's home.  Please see Allyson's email from last week about what to bring.

We love your children and want to finish well over the next 6 weeks!
