Apple Orchard Family Trip changed to Thursday, September 27th (during school day)
This was originally scheduled for Friday, September 28th.
Reese Apple Orchards near Dawsonville

Two days ago when I tried to intervene with a baby doll "sharing" concern, Zoe looked at me and said "We can work it out, Mrs. Lee." And they did!  What a precious reflection of the our first two weeks in kindergarten.  We are "working" things out as your children (many who are having their first school experience) are transitioning beautifully.  The children are becoming friends as they learn about one another, how to accept one another, and that Jesus wants them to show qualities of a true friend.   We hope you have enjoyed seeing their Wonderfully Made book that came home last Monday in backpacks and the Friends book that came home on Thursday. The children did an amazing job with their water color paintings of Amber's Mountain and their colored quilt squares. Each child recalled the PEARL rule and celebrated by making a PEARL keychain to attach to their backpacks. Special thanks to Marilyn Couey for helping with the keychain, reading Amber of the Mountain with a real mountain accent and helping prep our Friend Books.
Monday we will begin our Sound of the Week Studies with the letter "F".  This week we will be using feathers, finger painting fish, moving fast and slow, singing a Miss Gail song, Funny Fingersfolding and flying paper airplanes with our Mom of the Month Mrs. Stephens, studying the word "first" (and other ordinal poisitions), counting and graphing the number of people in our family.  We are planning to Freeze fresh juice to make popsicles.  Some fun "F" activities at home would include: Inviting a Friend over, Family Fun Night, visiting a pet store to see Fish.
Our Book of the Week,  The Glorious Flight, by Martin and Alice Provensen is a Caldecott Book set in the early 1900s in France and tells the true story of Louis Bleriot and the first flight across the English Channel.  As we read and discuss the book our topics will be family, methods of transportation, France, England, inventions, inventors, righting a wrong and perserverance.  God is the ultimate creator, inventor, so take time this week to notice and praise Him!  For our special event on Thursday, Jennifer Stephens will help us with our frozen fruit pops and then FLY OUR AIRPLANES from Balcony in the Main Entrance.

On to Week 2!

Week of August 20-23

What an awesome start we had last week! Your children are transitioning wonderfully. We are incredibly blessed to be your child's teachers!  We have already begun to build many wonderful memories and to move into a routine.

This week please drop-off and pick up you child at the normal carpool location.  Thanks to those who texted us  with any carpool changes last week.  The parapros will be greeting the children at 8:00 a.m. and Mrs. Jernigan and Mrs. Lee will come up to the Main Entrance around 8:15.  Remember biker shorts or soffees for girls under dresses.

Mom of the Month: Jennifer Stephens
Sound of the Week: N/A
Book of the Week: Amber on the Mountain by Tony Johnston
This delightful book is about a little girl is rural Appalachia who doesn't have a school.  A girl comes to the mountain who can read and the girls inspire one another to learn many important things including reading.  We'll be discussing friendship, family, roles, handling dissapointment, and perserverance.  We'll also read Rumplestiltzkin this week to compare his response to dissapointment to Ambers.
Habit of the Month: beginning Habits in September contininuing P.E.A.R.L. Rule
Our themes of this week (tying into Amber on the Mountain) are friendship and perserverance.
We will be joining with other classes to enjoy at PEARL fruit salad on Thursday as well as making a PEARL keychain on Thursday.
Scripture: Continue to look at verses that support our P.E.A.R.L. Rule.

Andrew G. , Zoe, Annily, Hannah, Gage, Michael, Thomas, Allie, Landon, Jack, Walker, William, and Andrew C. ...

We have prayed for you by name for the past month.  Mrs. Jernigan (our wonderful para pro) and I believe that God placed us together for an incredible school year to learn and grow.  In just one week, we will begin our nature walks, building, painting, cooking, daily digging into wonderful books, playing games and math activities.  We will enjoy our awesome playground and lake that is full of tadpoles and other neat creatures.  We will also study God's word that will prayerfully become a part of YOU and your story.

I have enjoyed  meeting many of you at our home visits and look forward to two more this week.  Mrs. Jernigan and I plan to drop by the Class Get-Together at William's pool on Tuesday. Gage's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephens, are our awesome Room Parents.  They both have a special gift of making people feel a part.  They are planning ways that your parents can get involved and will come and be a part of our class throughout the year.

Please know that on the first day of school your parents will drop you off in the classroom and days after that we will meet you in the front entrance and walk you down to the classroom.  We will not let you get lost.  We would love to hold your hand if you need us.

We will continue to pray for you daily as we prepare for the great things that this school year holds.  Will you pray for your classmates and for us?  God moves great things when we ask Him!

I look forward to replacing the photo of our chalkboards above with our 1st day class photo.

See you soon,
Mrs. Lee
