We look forward to seeing your children tomorrow morning, bright and early and hearing all their wonderful Thanksgiving experiences.

Thank you to Kevin and Sandra Jones and Amberly Deavours for being a part of our Thanksgiving feast last Tuesday.  Thanks also to Gomo, Annily's grandmother for helping with our Thankful Trees and reading our book of the week.

Please see a photo of our cute little Indians to the right.

We jump right back into school tomorrow with our book of the week, The Ox Cart Man which is another wonderful Newberry winner written by Donald Hall and illustrated by Barbara Cooney.

I responded to several emails about our narration of last week.  The students only heard the book The Three Pilgrims one day in class but most were able to take home to read with parents.  We also read the book Squanto as a supplement and the children were especially attentive.  Please feel free to have your child narrate either of the two books.  The last two years the majority of the students narrated and illustrated Squanto.

We begin our practice for our Christmas pageant tomorrow!  We are thrilled that the Lee-Jernigan students will be featured as the "animals" of the nativity....sheep, cows and donkeys...(and Mrs. Jernigan and Mrs. Lee are thrilled that we already have all adorable costumes from the past two years that were made by moms from these classes).  We will let you know by the end of the week of any special socks, etc. that the students will need to wear.  Also, we plan to send a recording of the song through a blog link as soon as our song plans are finalized.    Please put this on your calendar!  December 19th....it's precious, a can't miss!

Important information:

We will study the first Thanksgiving the next two days and will attend a feast as Native Americans on Thursday at 11:00.  There is nothing to prepare at home.  The teachers are providing food and the costumes are our vests that we made last week for "V" week (with feather headbands that we will make on Tuesday morning).

Looking forward to Annily's grandmother "Gomo" coming tomorrow morning (Monday at 9) to help with our Thankful Trees.  Trees will come home on Tuesday at noon.  We will send several extra leaves to fill in and place as a family.

Veteran's Day at PCS was the BEST ever!  Thank you to Annily's and Ryan's grandfathers for coming early Thursday morning and sharing about their lives in the military.   How awesome it was to have these grandfathers to read the book of the week.   Thanks also, to Andrew C.'s grandfather for stopping by to meet the class.   Every detail of the program was powerful...seeing these grandfathers who served our country... stand during Armed Forces Medley while their grandchildren looked up at them was amazing!

Mrs. Jernigan and I both are incredibly thankful for our special class this year.  We pray that your Thanksgiving is rich with family time, great memories and real time to praise our Heavenly Father (as a family) for the richness of His continued Blessings!  You and yours are loved!

Week of November 12-15

This is a wonderful week in Kindergarten as we study what is means to be a United States Veteran.  We will study the different branches of the military and talk about the commitment and sacrifice in serving our country this way.

Our book of the week, All Those Secrets of the World, by Jane Yolen is a bittersweet tale of a child's impressions of her father's departure to war and then the conflicting emotions when he returns.  The story is set in WWII.  The illustrations are beautiful.

Please join us on Thursday, November 15th at 9:30 a.m. for our PCS Veteran's Day Celebration.  Every year, this day is one of the most memorable of the school year.  On Thursday morning, the auditorium will be filled with our students, parents, teachers, and administrators and hundreds of  Veterans!  Please attend on Thursday morning if you possibly can.

We look forward to having Annily's grandfather (Amberly's dad) who is a Veteran to read on Thursday morning and hoping that Ryan's grandfather (Anne Marie's dad) can be a part of our Thursday morning also.  We will touch base with both of you on Monday.

Veteran's Day is CHAPEL DRESS!  WE WILL SEND SEVERAL REMINDERS!

Late Start on Wednesday, will send reminder.

Parents, thank you for support and prayers last week.  We finished "W" week well!
See photo of Wacky Wednesday as we read our Dr. Suess book under the table....how wacky!

It's November!  Before we know it, we will celebrate Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays.  Please be aware of the following dates as you mark your calendar for this month
and next.

WE DO HAVE SCHOOL ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH (ELECTION DAY)...UNLIKE LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

Wednesday, November 14th - Late Start

Thursday, November 15th - Veteran's Day at Perimeter School - 9:30 a.m. in Main Auditorium.   This is one of the most memorable days at our school.  Our school hosts hundreds of American Military to say thank you for their service.  Invite any service people that you know. Please check out the Veteran's Day information on the school website.
Students will wear chapel attire this day.  Please join us if you can.  Fantastic morning.

Wednesday-Thursday, November 21 and 22 - Thanksgiving Holidays
The children will participate in a Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, November 20th.  Our class will dress as Indians and will make our costumes at school (nothing to do at home).  The teachers provide the food and our awesome Parents of the Month will help to host that morning.

Christmas Pageant - Wednesday, December 19th
It's precious, lasts about 20 minutes (after working for a month to rehearse) and it a MUST for parents and grandparents.
Probably around 9:00 a.m. but will get info to you ASAP.
We have cow and sheep costumes from past two years but might need to spruce up or add to...

Service Projects - Thursday, December 20th
Teachers will be a part.  Parent led.

This week we will travel to the African Savanna as we study the letter Z and read a beautifully illustrated book, Here on the African Savanna.  Our Parents of the month will provide a traditional African meal of beans and rice on Thursday after we watch a slide show presentation of Mrs. William's mission trip and safari to Tanzania.

Please continue to encourage your children to practice their letters on the chalkboards at home.  Mrs. Jernigan and I are creating practice sheets for letters and numbers that students have studied to date.  Look for these to come home in the future.

Thank you also for your wonderful effort and encouragement to your children with their Book of the Week Journals.  Many of the kids are becoming quite competent with recalling the stories and illustrating.  We love reading these aloud on Monday mornings.
