The Great Kapok Tree - Letter K

Book of the Week - The Great Kapok Tree
Sound of the Week - K
Habit - Attention
Moms of the Month - Samantha Griggs and Alex Holck

Hope you had a relaxing three day weekend!

Looking forward to another action packed 3 day week in kindergarten.  Our book this week, The Great Kapok Tree, is full of colorful, rich pictures that depict the beauty of God's creation in the Rain forest.  We do feel that we need make our parents aware that this book is written from a secular/save the earth perspective.  We think the book itself is fine, but there is a letter at the back of the book that reads "save mother earth".  We plan to black the mother earth in this letter.  We know the author writes from the secular perspective of saving what we have, and Genesis 1 shows us that God asks us to "care for what He has given." Both of our verses this week are from Genesis...God made the plants and the animals....all of them AND God set man over His creation to care for it.  We believe the book is valuable but didn't want this book to come home without explaining our concerns.  Please let us know if you would like to discuss.

Ask your child on Tuesday afternoon to show you how to make a Karate K!

Beginning this week, it would be helpful for children to practice their letter of the week on their chalkboards that we brought as gift to home visits.  Practicing 6 or so a couple of nights a week would be appropriate.

Thank you to Alex Holck for helping out with Vision and Speech/Screenings and in the classroom last week.

We enjoyed meeting Gage's grandparents last Monday morning, (and took pictures that I will add soon).  His grandmother loved introducing and reading Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel.

Also, thank you Samantha Griggs for reading last Thursday.

Looking forward to conferences next week.  Please refer to conference schedule email sent last Wednesday.
