Week of October 1-3
Sounds of the Week - Y
Book of the Week - "When I Was Young in the Mountains"
Moms of the Month - Alex Holck and Samantha Griggs
Wow! What a wonderful trip to the Apple Orchards last Thursday. Thank you Alex Holck for doing an "a"mazing job coordinating the trip. The students will bring their Seasons of the Apple Tree handmade book home on Tuesday. How special that they we able to see the Summer tree in real life last Thursday. See photo to the right. Hope to add more very soon.
Looking forward to a short, but rich "Y" week. Our book, "When I Was Young in the Mountains" by Cynthia Rylant is a wonderful story of "the way it used to be". We are excited to have Walker's grandmother read on Monday and are hoping that she won't mind sharing a little about the way things were she was young. The students are shocked to learn that we grew up with no cell phones, only 4 Atlanta television stations, no iPads and no microwave
ovens.
General Store on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. - The 6th graders at PCS have just finished reading the book As the Red Fern Grows and have invited us to be a part of a General Store (which totally supports the setting and time of Book of the Week). The 6th graders will be dressed in early 1900's costume and will sell small General Store type items. They will also set up games such as marbles and pick-up-stix. Your child can purchase all that is needed for 1.00. Most items are 5-10 cents. Our 4th grade Partner class is going to attend with us to help us count money and make good choices. Bring a 1.00 this day or if you forget, Mrs. Jernigan and Mrs. Lee will have some to share. The proceeds from the store benefit the Guatemalan Teachers Mission Trip.
Thank you to Kelly Gordon, Alex Holck, Kelly Porter and Sandra Jones for planning an awesome Service Project Day for Wednesday. Please refer to email from these moms as to items to bring and plans for the day. Please pray for the PCS teachers who will be attending a Charlotte Mason conference in Chattanooga on Thursday and Friday.
Remember PCS will be closed on Thursday and Friday this week as teachers and administrators are away at conference.
You will be receiving an email soon that will list sign up times for our October 24th conferences. Please check you calendar and reply by Friday, October 5th. Mrs. Jernigan and Mrs. Lee will be meeting with parents together for these October conferences.
